Giano Currie is an award-winning Surinamese fine art photographer and visual artist based in Miami, known for transforming the human form through dramatic light, shadow, color, and abstraction. With more than 15 years of experience spanning fine art and commercial photography, Currie approaches the camera less as a tool for documentation and more as an instrument for creating entirely new ways of seeing.

Describing his approach as “sculpting with shadows and painting with light,” Currie uses carefully manipulated lighting, unconventional angles, and negative space to reshape familiar forms and invite viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible. His striking portraiture often challenges traditional representations of identity and the body, balancing elegance with experimentation and leaving space for the viewer’s own interpretation.

Born and raised in Suriname, one of South America’s most culturally diverse countries, Currie credits his upbringing with shaping the cultural perspective behind his work. After moving to the United States, he developed a multidisciplinary creative background encompassing photography, art direction, filmmaking, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Currie’s work has been exhibited in Miami and internationally, and his accolades include selection for the Leica Miami Artist Photographer Program, recognition by American Photography 35, and finalist honors at Art Olympia in Tokyo. He is also the creator of After Hours® Photoshoot, an immersive photography experience that brings audiences directly into his creative process.
